NWI – A British tourist kidnapped in Kenya is believed to be held by pirates in Somalia, a security official told CNN.

Judith Tebbutt was abducted by armed men from a luxury safari lodge in Kiwayu, near the Somali border earlier this month. Her husband, David Tebbutt, was killed when he tried to resist the attack.

Ali Babitu Kololo, an employee at the resort, was charged with robbery and abduction. A second man is expected to appear in court at a later date, the report said.

The British government has asked journalists not to reveal the exact location of Tebbutt to avoid the risk of abduction attempts by rival gangs.

A Nairobi security analyst told CNN he thinks the kidnapping was the work of armed gangs and pirates, not an al-Qaida-linked militant group.

While no ransom demands have been made, security analysts told CNN they think Somali pirates are moving onto land because it is getting harder for them to operate at sea.
